One Click Retail shared some very interesting facts this week about Amazon’s growth during 2017, the first being that Amazon was responsible for an estimated 44% of all U.S. e-commerce sales last year. Think about that for a moment. Almost one half of every purchase made online last year was made through Amazon.com. It is estimated Amazon had total sales of close to $200 billion in 2017. Keep in mind that Amazon’s revenues in 2007 were almost $15 billion. That’s some growth. That $200 billion represents 4% of the country’s total retail sales.

It’s not just brand names either. Amazon has created their own private brands with tremendous success. The endless shelf opportunity that exists online has created an opportunity for private label brands that has never truly existed before and you see ever more no-names populating Amazon’s website, with apparent success.
“Every major trend we see across 2017 can be explained by the fact that more of Amazon’s core demographic (millennials) are growing up: they’re increasingly owning homes, raising children, and buying a TON of stuff to go with it,” One Click Retail CEO Spencer Millerberg wrote in an annual review of Amazon.
