February 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Day or World Kindness Day. This is the day to do nice things for somebody else, whether it is opening the door, driving a senior citizen to the grocery store or in your office offering a little extra. This might be the day you donate old eyeglasses, lenses or even call some of your unemployed patients for an eye health day.
There is a national organization established in 1995 called Random Act of Kindness that has useful tips and ideas on how to make this day special and promotes Random Acts throughout the world.
- In 2006, a Free Hugs Campaign was made popular by a music video on YouTube.
- HelpOthers.org is the home of Smile Cards and a portal of kindness stories, ideas, and online groups. It allows people to send random notes of kindness to others.
