This is not an unusual emotion for supervisors, not just in Optical but any industry. The conflicts and stress of watching out for employees and assisting management can be overwhelming. Add family pressures to the mix and it’s not surprising that supervisors sometimes find it difficult to cope. Stress isn’t a bad thing as it motivates us to get our done. It is how we handle stress that counts.
Here are two things supervisors can do to deal with stress:
- Express your concerns.
- This may be the single most valuable stress management technique.When an optical employee seems to be taking advantage of your good nature and you thinks it’s time for a talk about tardiness, don’t put if off until next week. Do it now. Otherwise, it will just eat away at you which is not good for your relationship with the worker.
- If your boss has asked you to produce something withing too short a time frame, don’t just say yes. Tell your boss about your concerns as he or she will want to know and will probably be able to help you work out the issue.Communicating about what is stressful is a relief technique.
2. Organize Yourself and Surroundings
- Chaos creates stress so organize your physical surroundings and keep them organized
- Organize your schedule, if you make a daily list to keep track of what needs to be done, you may find that merely putting it on paper makes you feel as if you have more control over the work.
Make stress work for you and you will find that it is one of your greatest allies.
