Optical Blog Grog – “Optico Mojito”

Here is another Optical Blog Grog recipe, “Optico Mojito”  our second cocktail suggestion for our Optical Blog Grog series running every Thursday throughout the summer. I discovered this drink at an Optical Industry meeting, taking a break on the ski slopes in Utah shortly after a French guy from Essilor tried to kill me by leading me into a triple diamond black run and then skiing off to catch a plane!

Last week I posted a recipe for “Dark and Stormy” and a couple of people asked me where to buy ginger beer. I get mine at my local market, Seaside Market in Cardiff but I know Trader Joe’s has ginger beer and I am sure many other markets do, you just have to look for it but do not substitute Ginger ALE it is not the same thing at all!

Optico Mojito Recipe:

1. Lazy Version: Fill a big glass with lots of ice, add one part light rum, add 3 parts Rose’s Mojito Cocktail Mix and a splash of club soda. Add a slice of lime and a sprig of mint for garnish.

2. Purists’ Version: Take a big glass add a spoonful of sugar, a sprig or two of mint, a small splash of club soda and muddle until the sugar, the mint and soda are well mixed together. Add ice, one part light rum, one part freshly squeezed lime juice and a very generous splash of club soda. Add a slice of lime and a sprig of mint for garnish. Guzzle away, it is delicious!

Hint: Make a big jug of these when you have guests, they are a crowd pleaser and very easy to serve. Just add the ice and soda individually when you are ready to serve. We hope you like the Optical Blog Grog, please drink responsibly.

(The word grog refers to a variety of alcoholic beverages. The word originally referred to a drink made with water or “small beer” (a weak beer) and rum, …)
