As most of you are aware, many of the key industry partners have experienced challenges related to the 5010 conversion. Those challenges range from payers unable to accept 5010 transactions to concerns involving the effective processing of 5010 transactions and lastly the distributions of claims status reports. These issues are compounded by overwhelmed help desks across the industry. However, despite these issues, progress continues steadily. Industry partners are benefiting from shared lessons learned surrounding the most common challenges.

According to recent reports from MGMA – a professional organization that provides education, resources and advocacy for physicians – medical practices throughout the nation are experiencing significant challenges implementing these new transactions, a situation that has led to considerable cash flow problems for physicians and their practices. MGMA issued a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HSS) regarding the payment disruptions medical practices have experienced as a result of the transition to version 5010. A copy of the letter can also be downloaded from the MGMA website.

We will continue to disseminate 5010 specific information to our clients throughout the transition process. And we thank you for trusting VisionWeb and Emdeon as your source for HIPAA readiness.
