So many of our colleagues have lost so much from the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Harvey throughout southern Texas and Louisiana. A number of our friends in the optical business have stepped up to help and we honestly need everyone’s help. I have heard multiple stories of families who have lost everything.
This morning I heard one frightening story which I will share here. It came from an optician whose house was a total loss. While trying to salvage what he and his family could, they were approached by two men at gunpoint attempting to move them to the back of the house. Only the sound of helicopter blades overhead and the quick thinking of this optician that the helicopter was coming to rescue his family possibly saved he and his family as the thieves quickly fled out the back.
I am sure you have all heard many sad stories from Optometrists and opticians affected by this terrible tragedy. This is where we as an optical community can help. Any help is greatly appreciated. From contact lens solution to frame adjustment tools. From frames to lenses. Anything optical helps. Of course, best of all, dollars. Many of these people are struggling for a place to live, let alone the tools to do their business. No amount is too small. $5, $10, $50, $500, $5,000. Whatever you feel you can share will come back to you somehow in helping our friends get back on their feet once more.
Here are the links we know of where you can help your optical brothers and sisters. We will add more as we are notified of more.
