Getting Your Optometric Practice Involved With #GivingTuesday

On November 27, 2017, many of us were inundated with emails about #givingtuesday. Giving Tuesday, a fairly ‘new holiday’ and is known as “global day of giving”

First, you have Thanksgiving (Thursday), then Black Friday, then Shop Small (Saturday) then Cyber Monday and then comes Giving Tuesday. In 2016 charities raised $180 million on Giving Tuesday an increase from 2015’s $116 million. Over 100 Countries take part in this effort and with that end-of-year campaign have seen significant increases in donations on the season.

In 2017  the consumer spent over 6 billion dollars online making it the biggest online shopping day in US history. Although it’s a relatively new event, Giving Tuesday raised 177 million dollars in 2017.

Visionweb offered some helpful hints how to get involved in Giving Tuesday:

‘While you give the patients in your community the gift of better sight, there are people across the globe who don’t have access to an eyecare professional. Whether you’re donating money, your time, or your expertise, there are multiple ways you can give to those in need. This post provides a few examples of how your optometric practice can participate in Giving Tuesday.

How Your Optometric Practice Can Participate In Giving Tuesday

Volunteer At An Organization

Donating your time is a great way to help out your community. Whether you’re volunteering by yourself, with your friends and family, or with your entire practice, finding some time to help a local organization will enrich your community, build stronger bonds, and can also serve as a vehicle to promote your practice. Let today be a reminder that there are organizations in your community that need your help year around, not just on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Donate Money To A Charity

With the end of the year nearing and vision benefits expiring, your practice may be too busy to volunteer your time. Fortunately, there are dozens of vision charities for the eyecare industry that could use a donation. One organization that VisionWeb is excited to be a part of is Optometry Giving Sight. This organization targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision from uncorrected refractive errors.
