We’ve all been there. We’ve all dealt with it. And we all know what it’s like to work with someone who has bad breath.

Bad breath, (which is also known as halitosis in the medical field), is a fairly common condition when an individual has consistent bad breath. There are many ways you can treat halitosis, like brushing and flossing your teeth more than three times a day, rinsing your mouth out with Scope or purchasing over- the-counter liquids that are known to clean out bacteria from the back of your throat.

But unfortunately not everyone who has bad breath knows they have bad breath. And due to this sad fact, if you are working with a co-worker who has halitosis you may feel responsible to inform them of their sad situation.

If you’re sick and tired of breathing in disgusting air every time your co-worker exhales, here are a few methods you can try to tell them they have bad breath:

1. Just say it– If you are close with your co-worker than just be honest and tell them straight up that they have bad breath. But beware that their feelings could be on the line, so try to make a joke out of it or tell them lightly when no one else is around.

2. Hand them a piece of gum– If you keep on handing them a piece of gum every time your co-worker comes near you, then hopefully he or she will eventually get the hint. However, the only effective way to do this is to be consistent, otherwise he or she may not get the hint.

3. Act oblivious– Another effective way to deal with a co-worker who has bad breath is to declare that there is a bad smell in the room, but you have no idea where it’s coming from. If they happen to lean over you while you’re working, try not to gag and say something like “Do you smell that? Something smells horrible!” If they still don’t get the hint, wait until they come around you again and say something like “There’s that smell again!” They’re bound to get the hint eventually.

4. Pass it on– If you are too shy or nervous to tell the person straight up that they have bad breath, then why not ask a blunt co-worker that you don’t particularly like to do the deed for you?
