Ennio De Rigo Named “Cavaliere del Lavoro”

The President of Italy bestows The Order of Merit for Labor to the Chairman of the De Rigo Group

Ennio De Rigo, Chairman of De Rigo Spa, has been awarded the honorary title of “Cavaliere del Lavoro”. On the Festa della Repubblican on June 2nd, a national holiday celebrating the foundation of the Republic of Italy, President Sergio Mattarella presented the honor to 25 Italian entrepreneurs who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the national economy. The awards ceremony will take place in the fall at the Quirinale, the official residence of the President of the Republic of Italy in Rome.

The announcement of the prestigious recognition presented to De Rigo Group Chairman Ennio De Rigo comes at a very important time as the eyewear company commences its 40th anniversary.

This important acknowledgment crowns the success of an enlightened, versatile businessman whose companies in a variety of market sectors have made an important contribution to employment and development in his homeland as well as abroad. Ennio De Rigo’s commitment extends to the social sphere with initiatives supporting the local community, and young people in particular. This includes the recent establishment of Fondazione De Rigo, focalized on initiatives for young people experiencing hard times.

“I am honored to receive the title,” comments Ennio De Rigo. “My company has always been like an extension of my family to me, and I am proud to say that, thanks to everyone’s hard work, I have made our name known all over the world, maintaining the values and roots of our family and our community. I firmly believe in the importance of people and relationships, which come first for me. I cannot help sharing this prestigious acknowledgment with all the people who have made my career in business an extraordinary group voyage with the hard work and dedication they put into their work every day”.

Ennio De Rigo is a multi-faceted, enlightened businessman with talent and intuition who has worked in a great variety of different sectors of business over the years – from construction in Cortina D’Ampezzo to refrigeration and eyewear. In 1978, he and his brother Walter founded a little workshop in the Belluno area making sunglasses and prescription specs, which has grown over four decades to become the well-known brand, De Rigo. In the eighties he purchased the historic Lozza eyewear company and launched the Police Lifestyle and Sting brands, inaugurating a new production plant in Longarone in the early nineties which has since become the official headquarters of the company, one of the most important and solid enterprises in the Veneto region.

Ennio De Rigo is still Chairman of the Group, leading alongside his wife, Emiliana. A companion in life and in work, Emiliana was the one who first made the dream come true in a little barn in the mountains of Pozzale di Cadore, founding what was to become an innovator in eyewear. A world leader in the production and distribution of top quality eyewear and one of the world’s biggest eyewear retailers, the De Rigo Group serves more than 80 countries with 16 sales offices, 4 retail divisions, and 3,000 employees, with a consolidated turnover of 429.5 million euros in 2017.
