A fairly new organization was started 2003… Movember. Movember is a global health awareness month for men. (as opposed to October for women) In Movmember men grow mustaches to raise awareness and funds for mens health, especially for prostrate and testicular cancer. The Movember movement has raised over $650 Million for mens health.
To get involved and become a ‘Mo Bro’ all you have to do is register at Movember.com and not shave for the entire month. You have now become a walking billboards for the Movember movement. Of course you want to raise money and there are several ways to do that:
1.) Contribute yourself.
2.) Designate a portion of each sale to the Movember Foundation
3.) Put up a jar in the reception desk with a Moustache and request donations.
4.) Have a Movember Trunk Show with proceeds to go the the Movember Foundation.
5.) Pull together a November Team and all raise funds as a team.
6.) Social Medi-eyez the full event and cite your funding every week.
The American Cancer Society’s estimates for prostate cancer in the United States for 2013 are:
- About 238,590 new cases of prostate cancer
- About 29,720 deaths from prostate cancer
- Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, behind only lung cancer. One man in 6 will get prostate cancer during his lifetime. And one man in 36 will die of this disease.
- Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men found to have prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 2.5 million men in the United States who have had prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.
Patient engagement is key, send out a press release, decorate your office and have some fun.
