I can’t believe summer is almost over but alas it is and we are just finishing up the dog days of summer. Do you know what the dog days of summer means? According to Wikipedia the term “Dog Days” was used by the Greeks, as well as the ancient Romans (who called these days caniculares dies (days of the dogs)) after Sirius (the “Dog Star”, in Latin Canicula), the brightest star in the heavens besides the Sun. The dog days of summer are also called canicular days.
How about the optical dog days of summer? Here is the story that made me look twice:

Sporting a pair of made-for-dogs sunglasses called Doggles, an English bulldog named ThatOne checks out the crowd from the stroller he was riding in Saturday at the Foundation for Animal Care and Education’s first Dog Day Afternoon at the Beachwalk in Solana Beach.
Here again is another example of people being aware of eyecare needs for their pets. We have talked about this subject before. This picture and product is very attention getting which makes me think that a promotional event around animal and pets’ eyewear might be a good way to attract the attention of human optical patients. Just an idea what do you think?
