Encinitas Demographics

One of the things that is very important to know for any retailer is demographics. Population, average age, buying power, kids and income. These vital statistics can assist you in marketing and in purchasing the right products for your demographics. My favorite is City-data- (Free) Just to see what comes up, when I plugged in Encinitas:

This says the population of Encinitas is 47,000 (rounded off) and we have 14 MD’s, OD’s and Opticians in Encinitas. That is 3357 patients per eye doc if everyone wore some type of corrective device.  Very competitive, especially since we have a CostCo in the next town up.

The median age is 38 years- good market for contacts, sunglasses and emerging presbyopia. Also means that these are probably internet savvy consumers, members of LOHAS, and have kids.

Ethnic Breakdown

Encinitas Ethnic Breakdown

Ethnic breakdown-White and Hispanic. Probably would be a good thing to have a Spanish speaking optician. Hispanic and Asian marketing relies heavily on word of mouth.

Encinitas Household Income

Encinitas Household Income

Household Income is fairly high- Good market for colored contact lens, upscale eyewear, 2nd pairs, top of the line lenses, sunglasses and accessories

Once you look at the demographics and your competition, you can make a determination on merchandising, marketing, hours of operation, products would serve your patient and potential patient needs.
