Goal Setting for 2009

I just came back from Ecuador and had the opportunity to travel with a 19 yr old. One night she pulled out her list of goals to share with us. To tell you the truth, it was impressive. She carries this list with her and checks off her accomplishments as she goes. How many 19 year olds even know what they want to do? How many people in general even write down their goals? This girl will go places- she’s already accomplished many things on her list and refers to and adds to it as she goes along.

We, at Optical Vision Site have a set of goals as well- they are written down (you can view them in the About tab) By writing our goals down, statistically speaking, we will be successful! Everything we do will center around achieving those goals. I am sharing them with you, because your support, subscriptions, comments, suggestions and referrals are very important to us and the success of Optical Vision Site. If we are lucky- maybe you want to write for Optical Vision Site and help not only your success but the success of the ECP.

Our Goals:

1.)  #1 Resource for Optical Professionals

2.) Page Rank of 1 in Google, Yahoo, MSN Search Engines

3.) 1000 people subscribing to our blog

4.) 400 Sponsors

5.) 10 Writers

6.) Have fun doing this! -

By achieving the above listed goals- we will produce income.- (A definite must) Each goal is specific and has a list of ‘To Do’s’ that are all interrelated. All lead to income.

That said-Do you have your goals written down? Do you know how to write your Goals?

Goal Setting- From Wikipedia- “Goal Setting involves establishing specific, measurable and time targeted objectives. Work on the theory of goal-setting suggests that it’s an effective tool for making progress by ensuring that participants are clearly aware of what is expected from them, if an objective is to be achieved. On a personal level, setting goals is a process that allows people to specify then work towards their own objectives – most commonly with financial or career-based goals. Goal setting is a major component of Personal development literature. ”

As the end of the year approaches- it’s time to set up goals for 2009. Too many times, we think of what we want to do- maybe it’s our dreams, maybe it’s personal- maybe it’s really what you really have to do financially. What is important – writing it down- Writing it down, helps to make your goals a reality- it is your ‘True North, Your Action Plan, Your Road Map, SMART Goals,’ or any other buzz words.

A Results study was done at Yale University placed goal setters in the successful category when compared to non-goal-setters. The 3% of the participants who had written their goals with a plan and took consistent action were happier, more confident and better adjusted. They also earned more money over that 20-year period than the 97% of the other participants.

All goals are important- but in business you have financial and business goals you must meet to stay in business. Listed below are some Helpful Hints in setting up your business goals:

1.) Make it Simple

  • Goals do not have to be complicated. If you say I’m going to achieve a 50% increase and list 100 complicated things to do- will you be able to achieve?

2.) Make it Achievable

  • Example- Sell 30 pair of sunglasses per month

3.) Make it Positive

  • Example- Incorporate Sunglasses Education with Patients by all Doctors and Staff

4.) Clearly define

  • Example- Implement Staff Training Program – Incorporate Vendors, Speakers into 1 staff meeting per month.

5.) Make it Measurable

  • Example- in 2008 – Sunglasses (Plano)  Sales= 100 Pair-  2009- Sell 150 Plano Pair of Sunglasses

6.) Write it Down and Review it Consistently

  • Example- Put goals up in staff room, in your office
