Ran across this interesting article from Australia and the future of medical records. It this a good thing? or does it potentially have huge privacy issues? Will it save money? or induce more fraudulent billing?
EXCLUSIVE: PATIENTS will be able to see their medical records online in an e-health revolution promising to save lives and billions in tax dollars.
Doctors would have to link patient records to a national database or miss out on lucrative Medicare payments.
But other than in an emergency, patients will have the final word on who sees their records.
The biggest health shake-up in decades would also bring a 0.75 per cent rise in the Medicare levy, to pay for a Dentacare scheme promising more affordable treatment. More than 600,000 are now on public dental waiting lists, waiting an average of two years.
And medical professionals would be offered top-up payments and tax incentives – and student doctors cuts to university HECS fees – to work in rural areas.
