Big Numbers in Social Media
Social Media Growing
This past week has seen big milestones (and huge numbers) for social media. Here is a look at the numbers.
- On Wednesday July 21st Facebook reached a milestone of 500 million members.
- A whopping 34% of those users are based in North America.
- That comes out to 170 million members in North America alone. Good job Facebook!
But Facebook was not the only social media service to make headlines. The much newer social media application,
- Foursquare, reached 100 million checkins this week.
- Foursquare has seen incredible growth over the past 12 months and is now reporting 1 million checkins each day.
These types of jaw dropping numbers just go to show that while social media is always changing it is not going away. Now is the time for businesses who are not already participating to become involved. As an eye care professional it is important to find new ways to connect with patients. Social media offers businesses the opportunity to connect with their customers in a place where they are comfortable.
