Eyecare Marketing For Valentines Day

Are you prepared to set up your eyecare office to take advantage of Valentine Day Gifts. Do you have red gift certificates sitting right by that pair of sunglasses? Why should someone spend money for candy when they can purchase a wonderful and eye-health saving pair of sunglasses or even the gift of an eye exam. It’s up to you to merchandise your office to give your patients and customer the Gift of Love- Beautiful eyewear! Over the next couple of weeks, we will try to get you in the love mood, providing visual merchandising ideas, some marketing tips and fun stuff as well.
Eye Bogglers
- The average American spends $102.50 each on Valentines Day Gifts
- Approximately $14.7 Billion was spent on Valentines Day in 2008
- Estimated spending in 2009- $17 Billion
- Americans purchase gifts not only for their loved one, but don’t forget, classmates, co-workers, teachers and friends: friends, $4.74; children’s classmates and teachers, $3.59; co-workers, $1.94; and pets, $2.17.
According to the National Retail Federation 2008 Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey conducted by BIGresearch the average Americn consumer will spend $122.98 on Valentine’s Day gifts. The survey breaks down the numbers further:
- 25-34-year-olds will spend about $160 on Valentine’s Day gifts
- 18-24-year-olds come in second with $145 each
- 55-64-year-olds will spend about $110 each
More than 50% of shoppers will purchase at least one Valentine’s Day card, 48.2% will plan for the evening out and another 48% will purchase Valentine’s candy. More than a third of us will buy flowers, a tenth will give gift card, and another tenth will buy Valentine’s clothing.
And an additional $367 million Valentine dollars will be spent on showing our pets how much we love them, at least for about 17% of us.
Men are the biggest Valentine’s Day shoppers. Men spend almost twice as much as women, $163 each versus $84.
