I ran across these hand-painted sunglasses from Karin Frye at art4theface. I got to thinking, is this ‘custom handmade’ eyewear is something you could offer to your patients? I used to know an optician who actually did custom hand -painted glasses. Then as another great marketing tool, a high end office I knew, bought up all these closeouts and dyed them himself and presented to his clientele as ‘one of a kind’ and was selling for $300+!
If you were artistic or are into arts and crafts- this might be something to think about. You probably have tons of old eyeglasses and sunglasses sitting around and not moving, discontinued products that your vendors won’t take back- Why not experiment and hand-paint a few of them and present as one of a kind pieces of your own ‘Designer Eyewear’ All it would cost it is the price of the paint.
Or Have a Hand-Painting Party- Kinda like they have those clay painting stores. You could invite your patients and their friends in- sell them some old eyewear and let them customized their old or your old eyewear. Why not- get a new look, get rid of old product and sell some lenses. How fun is that!
Where to get:
1.) Plenty of eyeglass vendors offer closeout eyeglasses- buy frames in bulk at great prices and have fun painting away.
2.) How many of your patients come back after a few months and decide they don’t want these glasses anymore. Instead of sending them back to the vendor- Fix them up and re-sell as recycled eyewear. Your vendors will love you and you are being eco friendly as well!
3.) Have some product that is not moving and you can’t exchange, this might be a good solution- throw them in the mix- and spiffy them up!
4.) Have your patients bring in their old frames- if they don’t like the results, you can always donate.
Here’s what I think, It might be fun, could be a good eye-care promotional and marketing tool, recession buster- Eye-Care For Fashion Eyewear- Recession Buster Fun! Update and Custom-eyez Your Eyewear with our Recession Buster-Hand Painting Party!.
And invite your Reps- let them get as fun and creative as you. Let them help you engage your patients and customers.
