The best news I’ve heard in a long time.
Because I’m really much more than just a fashion conscious jewelry designer, I read about other important things as well. I recently came across the following article that caught my attention. Troy Bedinghaus, O.D., in his About.com, Guide to Vision blog, reports that “Red Wine May Ward Off Cataracts.”
He goes on to write, “Drinking red wine may help prevent cataracts, one of the common effects of aging. According to a new report in “Cell Metabolism,” large doses of resveratrol, an ingredient found in red wine, delayed or prevented many ailments associated with aging in mice who began taking it at midlife. The study showed evidence that resveratrol mimics the beneficial effects of eating fewer calories. Earlier studies have shown that reducing calorie intake by 30%-50%, or eating a nutritious diet every other day, can delay the onset of age-related diseases and improve quality of life.”
So, you don’t have to eat less to live a better life, just drink a lot of red wine and… Bingo!
But, for those of us who are a part of the ”Has anyone seen where I put my reading glasses?” set, we have problems that drinking a lot of red wine won’t solve. In fact it will probably make it even more difficult to find our glasses.
Recently, I had two well-dressed women (one who should know better.) refer to the general category of Eyewear Jewelry as “granny chains.” I like her, but I threw her reading glasses under a bus. (Just kidding. But, I should have.) The other, (obviously, a much more refined and perceptive woman) referred to them as ”sautoir.” As soon as it was polite, I called my French friend, Lilliane, to get a translation. She believes it comes from “sauté” … little jumps in ballet. It was what they called the long necklaces that flappers wore in the ‘20s when they did little jumpy dances. Nice, huh? Sautoir… I like it… I’ll have to do a collection of these.
But, I realize that there are (so I’ve been told) some women, who have a concern about wearing something like NECGLASSES, Eyewear Jewelry that attaches to your glasses, that they feel calls attention to their need to wear reading glasses. I don’t agree, but that’s what makes elections interesting.
So, to satisfy those poor, misguided souls, I created a collection that I call CERCLE DU SOLAY. Beautiful necklaces that just happen to have a place you can hang your glasses from. Necklaces that don’t look like that’s what they’re designed for. It’s real jewelry. Not a leash, or a lanyard, or a loop, or a “granny chain.” It’s real jewelry. And, if you might happen to need to… there just happens to be a place where you could… Oh by the way… casually, hang a pair of reading glasses. If these were sold in jewelry stores you’d probably have to charge a lot more, because you’d have to do the obligatory “This looks mahvahlous on you dahling.” Which probably adds at least 50% immediately.
Here are even some exciting pieces on leather cords that even the most macho male would have no trouble wearing. Really! I call them Eyewires. They’re on the same site, www.solayeyes.com
So pour yourself a glass of red wine, and click on www.solayeyes.com. Check out Cercle du Solay to better understand what’s happening in the wide, wide world of Eyewear Accessories.
It’s a first step to helping your clients enjoy a better life. The red wine, of course couldn’t hurt!
