I actually did this about a year ago, checked out if I had unclaimed money somewhere- Unfortunately I did not, but my brother and a nephew did! There’s almost $33 billion in unclaimed money from old payroll checks, utility refunds, trust distributions, stocks, banking or checking accounts, lost riches and assets, certificates of deposit and the contents of safe deposit boxes, according to estimates by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.
Each state also has a publicly available list of unclaimed assets. Plug into google unclaimed money, property or assets and your state.
What to do:
1.) Get your information together, names of you and family, places you have lived in the past.
2.) Go to missingmoney.com (endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators) and search for unclaimed money for free. See results
3.) Go to your state government website to use their free search for unclaimed money, assets or property. Easy links to these resources are on the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators website (Unclaimed.org.)
