ReMake Safety Eyewear Into Hot New Fashion Shades
Written by Cathy on June 16, 2010 – 8:24 pm -Many of our readers probably have a few old safety frames sitting around in which you just don’t know what to do with. Jon and Lizzie have created a whole new retro, vintage street eyewear fashion from safety frames. This old but new look was picked up by such fashion bloggers as Coolhunting, Design Verb! and quite a few other sites. Jon and Lizzie sunglasses are available for sale through Wintercheck Factory, but hey you can make your own if you have safety eyewear sitting around collecting dust and taking up space.
Its a good way to re-use and re-vive old products. These would be very cool with mirrored lenses from either iCoat or OptiCote.

That’s a fine idea, but you had better make the lenses safety lenses if you are using safety frames. It is against the ANSI standards to put anything other than safety lenses in a safety frame.

Thanks for sharing that- I didn’t know that- even if this is an old, old frame from 20 years ago- you would still have to put in safety lenses?
Why is that?

In order for the lenses to have the safety stamp and in order for the glasses to be OSHA approved the lenses have to be made to safety standards. So if someone wants to use for OHSA approved safety eyewear it is true. If someone wants to just use as non safety glasses you do not need to put safety lenses into them.
