Red Dot Design Awards-What’s That All About?

I really don’t mean to be an idiot, and I’m sure that many of our readers know what a Red Dot Award is. But I don’t, I would see them and think how nice, they won an award. The reality is this is a very prestigious award. Red Dot Award an international opportunity for designers to submit their most creative and innovative designs to a panel of judges who will honor on your creativity and imagination for today and the future. (See Wiki) With over 11,000 entries, to become a winner, well for a designer it would be pretty much like winning Lotto except you would still have to work! Of course for any winner – it’s a major marketing and sales coup!

Besides eyewear there are about 20 design concept categories that are judged- Public space, Habitat, Mobility, Energy, Green. Bathroom, Domestic aid, Interior accessories, Illumination, Home Furniture, Productivity, Workplace. Protection, Third Age Life science, Interaction & communication, Entertainment, Fashion, Education,Recreation. Winners are notified about 3 months in advance so they can patent their designs – a good thing in this day of illegal
