Daring Eyewear Designers- Handmade Wood Eyewear
Written by Cathy on September 24, 2009 – 8:00 pm -I would consider these eyewear designer daring- because each piece is handmade and what a financial risk to produce and market wooden frames. Each piece is customized to fit each individual. (how time consuming is that!) The products are sold over the internet except iwood, who has been showing at Vision Expo.
The first is Eye Shoulda- who feature wooden frames or wood frame and metal combination. You can order the type of wood (30) , about 22 styles and the type of lenses you want.
The second is Urban Spectacles. His uniqueness comes from woodcuts, hand-carving, mixing wood inlays, adding turquoise, adding tattoos or decals on the temples. His blog is very interesting as he delves into his creative processes in developing his eyewear. He also purchases his wood from Environmentally Friendly Timber companies that employ sustainable practices. Some of his woods are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood. This is a really good thing.
iWood Eco Design Eyewear – all the wood is FSC Certified and the glue is formaldehyde free. They have been showing at Vision Expo- and are located in Kentucky.

hi, maybe you would like to talk about my glasses.
I am a french / floridian Optician and I do transform frames.
I first was working and living in the suburbs of Paris and them moved to Boca Raton Florida, where I lived for 5 years.
I moved back to Paris last year and am working for now over the internet.
Being a licensed optician and a woman, my vision of glasses is quite different of the vision of those two designers ( however I love their craftsman ship and their work).
All the glasses you’ll see on my website are either embellished by myself or my son(max!jeremy).
Let me know!
thank you
love your website and news letters.
