Who Is SqueakCat?

Hokah is located in the southeastern part of Minnesota

If any of our readers are on other optical blogs and forums, you will know Squeakcat, AKA Jacqui Pearson. So who is this woman who comments, sends us news, is up on eyewear design, lab equipment and optical news?

In a nutshell, Jacqui runs a small lab in Hokah, Minnesota called Angel Optical that makes hemianoptic lenses Franklin bifocals and prism segs. The money that is made on this work goes to fund an eyeglass charity by providing free lenses for low income. In between fixing her old lab equipment, (the lensometer was found in Pat McCoys dumpster in Worthington, Mn), she is a disabled veteran RN is oncall for diaster relief, she makes custom eyewear, is an activist for peace, homeless, gay rights and really any charity that gives back to the downtrodden.

In between all of her charity work, she fixes her own lab equipment. In fact Leo Hadley at Vision Systems, says she can do miracles with lab equipment! I guess she would have to as most of her equipment is donated cast-offs. Now I know why she is on all the social media, it provides a huge escape from looking- fixing another generator.

Last month for the first time, we heard from a despondent Jacqui, She needs new equipment, you can only fix equipment so much, it takes up too much time to find parts and duct tape is getting expensive. (She has used duct tape to fix up war wounds as well) We asked what we could do to help out: Her response is #1) If you have any lab equipment feel free to send it to Jacqui, #2.) If you or anyone you know is interested in funding a small wholesale lab to produce hemianoptic lenses and Franklin bifocals, or interested in research and development for wholesale labs. please either contact Jacqui or pass on these post on to any others that might be interested.

What Cathy didn’t mention is that I also make custom frames for people with facial abnormalities. Sometimes I also make one-of-a-kind frames for selected customers and when I really get creative some really funky sunglasses.

After having several people contact me I’m going to list what I need for this

    1. Complete, but basic surfacing lab (marker, prism blocker, 3-axis generator, cylinder machines and laps).

    2. Complete but basic finish lab (lensometer, blocker, edger, hand edger, groover, drill, tint unit, mounting equipment).

    3. Lens stock, mostly SFSV CR-39 in assorted base curves.

    4. Consumable supplies.

    5. Operating capital.
