What’s New at Vision Expo West 09?

Cathy and I have been attending Vision Expo’s for longer than we are going to admit and we were talking about how much has changed which prompted me to post about What’s New at Vision West ’09.  Back then (not saying exactly when!) Green only meant money and we didn’t even have the Internet then let alone Tweeting and all the social networking that goes on now. If you are feeling left behind, Vision West ’09 can help you out as there are some Social Networking courses you can take and we absolutely recommend that you take advantage of this opportunity. Even though I am a daily blogger, I am going as I know that I need to be better at understanding social networking.

Social Networking 101: What the Tweet is Facebook?
tweeter

Learn the absolute basics of Facebook and Twitter, including what these applications are, how to create a profile, and most importantly, how to use them. This Social Networking 101 course will allow you to understand the fundamental usage of these mediums personally and professionally.

Cracking The Social Networking Code To Generate New Business

Learn how to harness emerging social networking technologies like Linkedin and Facebook to build business and solidify customer relationships. Emphasis will be on practical to-do’s, examples and rules of the road, as well as fundamental search techniques for identifying target prospects, creating lasting relationships and building professional alliances that will help the practice grow.

We love that Vision Expo is  Going Green. Here are some stats:

So far as a Greener Vegas Convention Partner, International Vision Expo West has recycled a total of 4,620 pounds of paper which has saved:

  • 39 trees (~0.2 acres)
  • 16 barrels of oil (~311 gallons of gasoline)
  • 16,170 gallons of water (~1 average size swimming pool)
  • 9,240 kilowatts of energy (enough to power 1 home for a year)
  • This amounts to a carbon reduction of more than 3,465 Lbs

By the way Cathy’s Green blog is one of the best green sites. (Shameless Plug!)

Topics include:

  • Advanced PAL Designs (free-form designs, wavefront pals, optimized and individualized pals)

  • Questions On OCT
  • The Latest In Lab Technology

  • Becoming A High-Performance Ophthalmic Technician

Online Charitable Donations

This is new this year as well and if you haven’t registered yet you might want to think about making a charitable donation on line as with over 15,000 visitors, a small donation by many can make a substantial difference to all. You can make a $3.00 charitable contribution when you register online. All proceeds will support: 1) The Special Olympics – Lions Club International Opening Eyes Program, 2) Optometry’s Charity TM. And 3) The AOA Foundation – EyeCare America — Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
