So You Wanna Be A Frame Designer? Eyewear Design Competitions

Several design companies and organizations offer eyewear design competition in which you you can design your own eyewear , submit and hopefully win. The International Eyewear Design Competition 2010 is one place in which you design and create your own eyewear with the winners will be announced at Silmo in Paris on September 24th. Although it’s too late to submit for this year (registration due March 15th- eyewear design due May 10, 2010) at least it will give you plenty of time to start your planning for next year.

Just to give you an idea,  past winners: The 2008 theme was Frames With Character: You can visit the site to see all the entries, but the top winners were:

First Place Jerome Levilly/Renaud Bousquet

2nd Place- Sandra Petit/Sabrina Grenon

3rd Place- Ben Rozin

For other eyewear design competitions:

• Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition; Due in November, but check out the website to confirm.
• HD Eyewear Color and Design Award;
• Not only that but many eyewear companies such as Adidas and Swarovski offer up competitions from time to time. Adidas had an Olympic Goggle competition, Swarovski several years back did a design competition that included eyewear.
• Illusione Ottica is offering a new competition for a pair of eyeglasses to be announced at IOFT Tokyo for Eyewear of The Year. (I read that on Vision Monday Eyesway_

If you are really into design- hook yourself up with such websites as Coroflot an industrial design blog in which you can post your designs, resume and interact with other hopeful eyewear designers.
