Eye Am Cooking-Lessons From Julie and Julia
Written by Cathy on February 25, 2010 – 9:01 pm -I don’t know if any of you were able to read the book , Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously (Amazon book)
it was excellent! I then had the opportunity to watch the movie Julie & Julia [Blu-ray] (Amazon DVD) it was great as well, although I preferred the book. The book hit me more so than the movie not just because it was about a blog, but more because the persistence, the melt downs, the frustrations and most of all the commitment to her readers.
Bottom line- I got inspired- In the book, Julie gets up every morning at 5:30 am to write about her cooking experience, she comes home every nite and cooks, she shops for specific foods that you can’t get at the neighborhood grocery store, all while holding down a job. But her persistence and determination despite all of that got her a book and a movie and her dream job of becoming a writer.
Isn’t this the American Dream? How many times have we had a great idea and haven’t done anything about it? How many times have we had a great idea only to give it up in it’s infancy? How many times have we said, I don’t have time? Julie had a great idea to start a blog- and at the time, no one knew what a blog was (and many still don’t) started an expensive endeavor (all that food and butter) gave it one year and through fits and starts completed a project to great success.
Moral of the story- Hang in there, success will come to you if you are persistent and have an end goal.
For those who are not into reading traditional motivational books, I highly recommend this easy and fun read.

Pickles’ Work Glasses – Opti-Fun
Written by Shirley on February 23, 2010 – 8:13 pm -Here is a little Opti-Fun from my favorite cartoon again, Pickles always makes me laugh and I can relate to the “work glasses” as my husband Ron has several “work glasses”, i.e. the eyeglasses he has sat on, dropped, scratched and abused but refuses to part with. I have just ordered him a new Ete frame from Optylux. He better not turn them into work glasses!

Air Conditioned Eyewear Blows You Away
Written by Cathy on February 22, 2010 – 8:15 pm -Always on the lookout for the latest in eyeglasses and optical trends, I came across eyewear with built in fans! Believe it or not, I actually have a solar-generated hat with the same concept (it was a gift). These eyeglasses were invented by Kenji Kawakami, a Japanese inventor and are meant for peeling onions, blowing the fumes away. Kawakami is a pretty serious inventor and has named his inventing mania chingdogu, meaning strange tools in Japan. You can watch some more of his fun and unusual inventions visit
Visit Kenji Kawakami on Wiki as well
